We were asked to purchase a domain name and initially a one page website . The only domain name available at the time was www.touchwoodtreesurgery.net, A .co.uk or a .com was preferred though both of these were taken . We kept an eye on both the .com & .co.uk as the registration renewal dates were in September this year, and both domains had not been renewed .To find out the date when registration ends visit this link http://www.whois.domaintools.com.

After a domain is not renewed there is  a grace period of 30 days from the expiry date before the domain name is suspended. The suspension lasts for 60 days. If the domain name has not been renewed by the end of suspension, it will be put forward for cancellation. Cancellation would normally take place before midnight on the day the domain name is queued for cancellation. So after 90 days from the expiry date you will need to try to buy the domain. We were extremely lucky as we purchased  www.touchwoodtreesurgery.com and www.touchwoodtreesurgery.co.uk . Having the whole set is excellent as this will effectively block other companies with the same name. If the domain had been a very popular name it would have paid to take on professional services to purchase the domain on your behalf though be warned if you go down this route it can be very expensive, We will now be moving the website from the .net to the .co.uk as this is the preferred site with the .com & .net pointing to www.touchwoodtreesurgery.co.uk . Despite being a one page site SEO is very good with the key phrase "tree surgeon Wirral"  at position 5 in Google. With the migration to the .co.uk we must preserve all existing rankings- If you are considering moving domains make sure whoever is doing it knows what they are talking about and can prove they have the expertise to carry out the move

Domain Registration Renewal

Dont let this happen to you . Hamleys the famous London toy store forgot the pay their domain registration fees , which effectively  meant the domain name expired .The result was that their site was down for 36hrs . That's a lot of lost revenue. Once expired ie no registration fees paid the domain will be reoffered for sale after 90 days.
